yoga teacher training

Lately, I’ve been gently but firmly encouraging myself to better my habits and be mindful of how I spend my time.

In yoga it’s referenced a lot about being a slave to the mind and senses. Allowing ourselves to be pulled all over the show by flickering sense desire, or following the whims of what we ‘feel’ like doing (which is what we may think is ‘freedom’). But when we are thoughtful and have a goal we are working towards, we need a level of discipline to help us to engage in the things that we need do in order to reach that goal, whether we feel like it or not.

In spiritual life, it is advised that we make our mind ‘our best friend’ (a tool we can utilise on our self-discovery journey), rather than our worst enemy (something that controls us and takes us away from our ultimate goal and higher purpose).

Bringing the mind under our control can be achieved most directly through meditation, although meditation itself (and living a life that supports our growth) requires discipline. So practicing and cultivating discipline in our daily life can work in favour of supporting our spiritual practices, too.

The funny thing is, we may think freedom is ‘doing whatever we want’... but we soon learn that discipline and being able to be steadfast in our lives gives us a kind of strength and ability to be able to do what we set out to do, being less swayed by the tides of life (emotions, obstacles, desires, etc). Discipline plays a role in creating the peace and freedom we desire.

The first week was hard, but I feel like I’ve turned a corner and things are starting to feel somewhat habitual or dare I say it, easy/easier.

These were all habits I’ve had on my daily disciplines list for over a year, but aimed for 80% completion each day.
This past couple of months I’ve been holding myself accountable to 100% completion and can’t believe (but also not surprised) the difference it’s making in how I feel. I’ve had a few days where I’ve skipped things or consciously chosen to rest, but for the most part, have been consistent (i.e. consistent, not 100%).

I’m so grateful that between Ayurveda, Yoga, and Service, there are clear guidelines and pillars for living a vibrant, meaningful life. The habits I mapped for myself are based on a Sattvic and Spiritual framework, so I never feel like I’m burning myself out trying to maintain them. As a recovering mode of passion, ambitious person, this shift in how I’m leading my life feels like a nourishing relief. I can still do ‘all the things’, but in a much more aligned, tempered manner.

There’s nothing quite like the sense of purpose and balance that comes from this lifestyle, and it’s something I’m deeply passionate about sharing with others.

With that in mind, I want to extend an open invitation to join me in this journey. Yoga isn’t just a practice; it’s a process of transformation, healing, and growth—and it’s open to anyone who feels called to explore it.

This time of year is ideal for planning and setting intentions for the future. We all start to think about what we want the coming year to look like, how we want it to be different, and how we can invest in our personal growth. So, if you’re considering Ayurveda, deepening your yoga practice, or building a sustainable, service-based business to make a positive impact, this is the perfect time to commit.
